South Dakota flu cases numbers lower than last year
The number of new influenza cases in South Dakota doubled from Jan. 28 to Feb. 4, according to the South Dakota Department of Health.
But the season is still off to a slow start.
The week of Jan. 23, the state reported 11 new cases. The final week of January, the most recent week reported by the Department of Health, had 22 new confirmed cases, all Influenza A.
The number of confirmed flu cases for the season is 56. Last year by this period, the state had 83 confirmed cases.
Five new hospitalizations were reported in the most recent report, putting the total for the season at 20 hospitalizations. There have been no influenza-related deaths.

Imposed Saudi Food and Drug Administration last week a temporary ban on import of poultry meat and table eggs and their products and Ttaghizachma from Nepal and South Africa as a result of an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in the two countries.
